DOS Concepts & Facilities

Prerequisites:
None
Audience: New or Experienced PC/Midrange/Mainframe Users
Duration: Half a day

This course is intended to take the shackles off prospective or experienced PC users. DOS is the operating system engine that makes the compatible PC what it is. Most of us stay as far away from DOS as we can -- sometimes even after we know it. However, DOS PC knowledge can greatly assist PC users in such mundane tasks as installing undocumented software, making copies of data and programs, knowing what to do when your application doesn't spell it out etc. And this course is the right first ticket for your journey to a deeper PC understanding... and PC understanding is your ticket to a more productive use of your PC. You can't really get away from DOS. This course will help you recognize DOS when it appears boldly and uninvited on your PC monitor, and it will help you command DOS to do your bidding vs. its own.

PC011A

MS-DOS for IS Managers and Programmers

Prerequisites:
None
Audience: IS Managers & Programmers
Duration: Half a day
Home Lab: One

This course is a more intense variation of Course code PC011. As such it is intended to take the shackles off MIS Directors and Staffers who find they must become PC users and/or implementers. DOS is the operating system engine that makes the compatible PC what it is. In the past, MIS professionals had succeeded in staying as far away from DOS as they could. In almost all cases, this has hurt the organization and the credibility of the IS department. In reality, DOS PC knowledge can greatly assist MIS Personnel as PC users in such mundane tasks as installing undocumented software, making copies of data and programs, knowing what to do when your application doesn't spell it out, networking, setting up PC Support etc. And this course is the right first ticket for your journey to a deeper PC understanding... and PC understanding is your ticket to a more productive use of your PC and those PCs who you will be networking with in the near future. You can't really get away from DOS. This course will help you recognize DOS when it appears boldly and uninvited on your PC monitor, and it will help you command DOS to do your bidding vs. its own. For MIS professionals this is the right first step on the road to PC competence. And PC competence is becoming a prerequisite to gaining and/or maintaining MIS positions.

PC019

DOS PCs for Kids! QuikCourse

Prerequisites:
None
Audience: Kids ready to do a little more than word processing & games.
Duration: Half a day

This course is a little serious in that it is based on Course PC011 but it is delivered for Kids. Most Kids appear to be computer literate because they can grasp the "intuitiveness" of iconical interfaces and mouse operations. But deep down, they most often do not understand the beast which makes it all work. In this class, we attempt to take the mask off the beast, or at least understand why it is there in the first place. For some fun and computer understanding, this course is for kids. Big kids (adults) are admitted only with a signed release from a kid.
